...SIX SIGMA FOR TRANSACTIONAL SERVICES
..
As Six Sigma was initiated by Motorola with the objective of reducing defects and rework and thereby regain market share, the initial focus of Six Sigma was thus on the manufacturing processes only. However, GE realized that unless the service related processes in the organization were made efficient, the ultimate objective of customer satisfaction and growth was not possible to achieve.

In Transactional Services industry, the challenge of meeting and exceeding expectations of customers depends on the ability to control processes, which are transactional in nature and are mostly maintained by and hence dependent on individuals. It is these service related processes that need to be standardized and made efficient against “defects”.

Improvement in "time cycle" is the most common focus of the Transactional Services industry – which includes Banking & Financial Institutions, Insurance, Health Care, Transportation and Call Centers. The important issues that need to be addressed are waiting/queue time, excessive number of visits, late deliveries, damage in the delivery process due to packaging and handling etc. The ultimate objective here is to increase the “Conversion Rate” and reduce the "baulking" of visitors who go away without service due to heavy rush.

DSS has been conducting training and consulting for Six Sigma projects in Transactional Services industries also. One of our prime customers in this sector in India for whom we have successfully implemented Six Sigma projects at multiple locations is HDFC, the leading housing loan finance company. In the UAE, we have implemented Six Sigma project at Al Buhaira Insurance Company in several departments including Motor, Medical, FGA and Finance.
