The seminar started at 3.30 pm with an introduction to the concept of Six Sigma and its specialized approach for Software & IT industry. This seminar highlighted the practical applicability of Six Sigma in addressing the core issues of the Software and IT, like creeping requirements, excessive schedule pressure, high level of rework for delivered modules, inadequate configuration management etc.
Mr. Ramesh Sachdeva, Chairman and Managing Director of DSS, addressed the crowd, which included senior software professionals from leading software companies in Pune. Mr. Sachdeva elaborated on the ‘Third Wave’ in Six Sigma and how significant it is to each company in the software industry. He emphasized that the focus of Six Sigma initiative is to reduce cost by minimizing defects and rework and thus increase the revenue through improved customer satisfaction He reiterated his statement with practical examples of successful Six Sigma deployments in the industry.
Questions regarding coexistence and integration of Six Sigma with other process initiatives or frameworks like CMM (I), ISO 9001-2000, TSP, PSP, IEEE, ITIL etc. were also addressed in the session. The seminar was followed by a question answer session and high tea during which Mr. Sachdeva interacted with the audience and addressed concerns regarding Six Sigma implementation, the training programs for Green Belt and Black Belt etc. He also announced the Green Belt Training (open enrollment) for Software and IT, which is to be conducted in Pune starting from 21st September 2005. |
